Employee motivation can be boosted with responsibility
Date: 26/07/2010
Firms which demonstrate they have confidence in their employees' abilities can benefit from increased staff moral, it has been claimed.
According to sales incentives expert D P Noe, companies that value high morale, leadership and motivation should make sure their staff are constantly challenged and rewarded for their efforts.
Writing for Helium, she claimed: "Motivated employees need to receive recognition for their contributions and efforts or it will be very hard to maintain motivated employees.
"Often in the busy day-to-day atmosphere of work, the word thank you has vanished from an organisation's vocabulary."
She added that strong performance in the workplace needs to be acknowledged swiftly and rewards need to be given in a timely fashion - "not six months after the fact".
According to a recent study by Clearswift, banning social networking in the workplace can have a negative impact on employee motivation.
The firm's chief executive officer Richard Turner said that the growth in social networking would be impossible to stop.
