Businesses could boost employee motivation and engagement by allowing their staff to request flexible working.
According to Workforce Logistics, working flexible hours can make a huge difference to people's lives.
The firm also claimed that flexible working can help to reduce stress.
Dr Ken Beaumont, principal consultant and manager at Workforce Logistics, said that even a relatively small change in working times can have a hugely positive effect on employee motivation.
"Good employers will permit flexible working where it is possible [if] it doesn't affect the business," he said.
Dr Beaumont's advice follows hot on the heels of comments from Dr John Philpott, chief economic adviser to the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, who said that the government needs to rollout flexible working with a sense of urgency as it would dramatically improve the way in which firms can manage people.
Flexible working could be the motivational boost employers are looking for as benefits and perks come under pressure during the uncertain economic climate.
