Employee motivation at tax organisation low as only 15% are proud to work there

Date: 21/12/2010

Employee motivation at HM Revenue and Customs has fallen to 34 per cent, 23 per cent lower than the average civil service level, according to its annual survey.

According to Accountancy Age, only 15 per cent of staff say they are proud to be working for the tax organisation, three per cent lower than last year.

And the number of workers who say they would recommend a job at the organisation has also dropped by three per cent, to just 12 per cent.

A spokesman for HM Revenue and Customs said: "Obviously these results are disappointing, but there are pockets of improvement that we are looking to extend across the department."

The survey also revealed that only 11 per cent of workers said that there was good leadership in the organisation.

Staff morale also suffered yesterday as the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) released a report which said that less staff expect a pay increase this year than last.

Just 58 per cent think they will see an increase in pay next year, compared to last year's number of 67 per cent.
