Employee motivation 'is crucial during World Cup'
Date: 12/05/2010
The Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) has issued some employee motivation guidance for managers to follow during the forthcoming World Cup.
A poll carried out by the organisation found that nine in ten employers have no plans in place to help manage staff absence during the World Cup, with just five per cent having a policy and five per cent that have one in development.
Flexible working hours, unpaid leave and special screening of matches on premises could all help to boost employee motivation during this time, it was suggested.
"Research suggests that when employers demonstrate they care about their staff and their interests outside of work, employees are more likely to go the extra mile for the organisation," commented CIPD adviser John McGurk.
Recently, a study conducted by Business in the Community and Ipsos Mori found that companies that actively promote employee motivation see a financial benefit from their efforts to the tune of ten per cent.
