Employee motivation 'is about encouraging self-reliance'

Date: 13/05/2010

Some employee motivation advice has been given out by an expert which, while aimed at the medical profession, could cater for workers in all kinds of industries.

In an article in ChiroEco.com, chiropractor Michelle Geller-Vino underlined that it is far more effective to keep a team happy than to replace individual members and encouraging self-motivation is one of the most valuable ways to achieve this.

Making sure everybody knows what is expected of them is one step toward bringing this about, she advised, while another is to have a clearly defined structure of goals and rewards.

"You must understand what good leadership is all about - it is getting people to do what you want and need them to do because they want to do it," added Ms Geller-Vino.

The advice follows the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development recommendation that employers use the World Cup as a source of employee motivation.
