Employee motivation 'creates future leaders'
Date: 05/07/2010
Implementing an effective reward and recognition program will help to create company leaders of the future, it has been claimed.
According to director of sales for the Hutchinson Island Marriott Tenille McLeod, because employee motivation begins with leaders, it will encourage staff to realise that they too can motivate their co-workers.
Speaking to TCPalm, McLeod claimed that his company's reward and recognition program involves staff nominating their peers for an award each month - which includes a monetary gift, a plaque, a convenient parking spot and a gift certificate to a restaurant.
McLeod said: "The hospitality industry's foundation is about taking care of others, but we strongly believe in taking care of each other."
"This creates a friendly work environment where you find associates genuinely happy to be at their place of employment, and this happiness translates into outstanding customer service."
Business reporter Caitlin O'Toole recently told News.co.au that corporate team building events need to be carefully considered.
