Motivating staff in the IT sector can be a tough proposition, it has been claimed.
According to Processor, businesses need to do their utmost to keep staff engaged in the IT sector, which is a particularly "cut-throat" industry.
The news provider said there are a number of initiatives that can be undertaken to boost staff morale - including the introduction of simple reward and recognition programmes.
Speaking to the news provider, industry expert David Wilson, director of IT Services for Vector CSP, said: "IT personnel, particularly in the trenches, are too often taken for granted."
Mr Wilson suggested that simply offering staff decent levels of respect and outlining clear career progression paths can help remedy poor employee motivation.
He also suggested following Google's lead and offering employees the opportunity to work on their own pet projects during the course of their working day.
This week, Maria Collins told Helium.com readers that employee motivation programmes can be free and do not necessarily have to include sales incentives.
