Employee motivation 'can be boosted with short breaks'

Date: 19/05/2010

Employee motivation is more important than ever to reduce stress as people are expected to work longer hours and feel pressured by the prospect of losing their jobs, according to an expert.

TV presenter Dr Christian Jessen said more needs to be done to break the "grin and bear it" culture of dealing with stress, instead encouraging people to speak out when they need help.

Sometimes employee motivation can be boosted by as little as letting people take a short break to clear their heads, added Mr Jessen.

"When you have had a busy morning go outside and unwind," he commented.

"The world will continue. You are going to be far more productive when you go back to work after a short break than you were if you just battle on and let things come to a head."

According to a recent survey by bonjela, running late is the biggest cause of stress in people's lives, followed by traffic jams and rows with loved ones.
