Employee motivation 'can be boosted by staff development'

Date: 23/09/2010

Staff development can have a key role to play in boosting employee motivation, a leading commentator has claimed.

The Best Muyosima blog has highlighted the fact that managers and leaders have a key role to play in boosting their team's morale.

"The employee should not only be the recipient of change, but also an agent of change in the organisation," it explained.

It claimed that the starting point for all employee motivation efforts is to encourage engagement with the firm, as when this is achieved gains can be made and productivity boosts can be achieved.

Those looking to implement new employee motivation schemes should also ensure that they run follow-up discussions with their teams in order to monitor the success of these initiatives.

Earlier this month, Helium's Maria Collins claimed that employee motivation does not need to cost employees a great deal of money and can even be rolled out at no extra cost.
