Employee motivation 'boosted by flexible hours during footie season'
Date: 24/05/2010
Flexible hours is one of the incentives that will boost employee motivation around the World Cup, according to a leading food brand, along with reward and recognition programmes that let workers know they are appreciated.
Louise Davies, communications manager at Kellogg's, said the firm's research suggests that 15 per cent of the working population plan to watch all the World Cup games this year, meaning some will inevitably pull sick days.
"It's not possible for every business to adapt, but I think the lines of communication should be open," she commented.
"At Kellogg's we offer flexible working, but we don't miss out in terms of the bottom line."
Ms Davies went on to say that letting employees know they are appreciated, perhaps through reward and recognition programmes, will mean workers stay on for longer and work harder.
Research from Business in the Community and Ipsos MORI recently found that companies who practiced wellbeing measures in the workplace outperform their peers financially.
