Over half of British workers admit they have worked through their holidays, businesses concerned with employee motivation may be interested to hear.
According to research by YouGov and Croner, the most likely age group to work through their holidays are those aged between 18 and 24, while over 55s were the least likely.
Although bosses may think that this shows commitment to work, researchers have warned that over-working could be harmful to employee motivation.
"The whole point of holidays is to ensure that workers are entitled to a period of rest and relaxation. If they do not have this time it could cause or exacerbate stress issues," said Amy Paxton, Croner's senior employment consultant.
"Work-related stress is now recognised as a very serious occupational health issue.," she added, emphasising the need for leadership motivation to tackle stress.
Research from the Chartered Management Institute showed recently that almost 40 per cent of employees believe that stress levels are too high – attributing it to the attitude and approach of their boss.
