Staff in the UK have among the lowest employee motivation in the world, according to new research.
A study by Lumesse has shown that UK workers have the second least job satisfaction in 14 worldwide countries surveyed, while Scandinavians are rated the happiest staff.
The survey revealed that age is a major factor in employee motivation and workplace happiness, as mid-career workers are the least happy – which could have an impact on staff performance.
It also showed that less than a quarter of employees always feel trusted to make important decisions, and staff in China are almost three times as likely to enjoy large pay rises compared to the global average.
Matthew Parker, chief executive officer of Lumesse, said that the results of the survey showed that many companies "have a long way to go" towards achieving the best staff performance.
Recently, Paul Roberts, a healthcare consultant at IHC, advised bosses to accommodate flexible working for employees, in order to achieve the best performance.
