Employee motivation: Pay to increase in 2011, says research

Date: 29/03/2011

Wages will increase by an average of 2.5 per cent this year, according to figures, which will a welcome boost to employee motivation.

The Hay Group's PayNet UK Salary Tracker is an optimistic view of 2011 and is a sign of how bosses will offer staff rewards and recognition for their hard work over the last few challenging years.

Maintaining employee motivation and engagement was named as a key priority for businesses over the next year, Employee Benefits reports.

And according to the Hay Group, the rise is driven by cautious private sector recovery, as the report looks at how employees' pay compares with a range of key economic factors.

However, the report also pointed out that pay in real terms is decreasing and could continue to do so for the "foreseeable future".

Last week Rachael Krys, director of Inclusive Employers, said that older staff can boost staff morale and performance during tough times as they may have worked through similar situations before.

"They have experience of surviving recession and what worked in order to survive recession, and so those employers found it really beneficial to have that sort of resilience," she said.
