An unsuccessful company can still have employee motivation, as the two can work together but don't go hand in hand, an expert has said.
According to Dr Ben Hardy, staff morale is linked to direction in a company, so even if a company is unsuccessful but has a plan, then employee motivation can be high.
Speaking to Cambridge Judge Business School about the definition of morale, Dr Hardy commented that it's hard to pinpoint what it is, but associated it with "enthusiasm, hope, motivation and drive".
"Morale is a useful precursor for success, but it doesn't mean the two are going hand in hand.
"If you are being successful and everyone is praising you for it, and you have a sense of direction then morale can be high.
"I think it is hard to be unsuccessful and have no direction and have high morale. The two are coupled but not tied," he concluded.
Earlier this month, a study by Lumesse showed that UK workers have the second lowest job satisfaction in 14 countries surveyed for the report.
