Employers are missing the benefits of offering staff incentives and recognition through flexible working because they still see it as something only for parents and carers, an expert has said.
Shirley Borrett, development director at the Telework Association, says that more bosses should realise that flexible and home working could have a positive impact on the workforce, boosting staff performance.
She criticised the notion that only carers and parents are entitled to flexible working, saying that other workers "still deserve a life".
"A lot of enlightened organisations recognise the benefits to everybody and offer flexible working to everybody," Ms Borrett said.
"If it's not going to be detrimental to the team or the organisation, why wouldn't you offer it to everybody?"
Last week, Ms Borrett recommended that bosses who want to make sure staff are still performing well when working from home should measure their productivity in the long-term.
