New research has shown that over half of UK workers are continuing to work while they are meant to be on holiday, which could affect employee motivation.
Carried out by YouGov on behalf of HR specialists Croner, the study discovered that 52 per cent of full-time employees admitted they have worked while taking a break from the office, with 18 per cent saying they regularly do so.
Amy Paxton, senior employment consultant at Croner, said that, while bosses may be impressed with the commitment shown by those willing to give up holiday time to work, it could cause low morale later on, as well as risk of poor health.
"The whole point of holidays is to ensure that workers are entitled to a period of rest and relaxation. If they do not have this time it could cause or exacerbate stress issues," she explained.
Hermie Hogg, a health and wellbeing consultant, recently said that workers should not be chained to their desks all day long and should be encouraged by employers to take time outside.
