Eco-systems could boost employee motivation in the workplace by coordinating a large group of people, the Cambridge Judge Business School has said.
According to Professor Peter Williamson, an eco-system method of business organisation can be used to reduce the tension that many companies are experiencing nowadays.
Professor Williamson said that many companies feel the need to reduce the complexity of work, and by making them simpler they can concentrate on a few things that they are really good at.
However, on the other hand customers want a wider array of services, so companies are feeling the strain of achieving the right balance.
"An eco-system is a way to get some of the benefits of being big by coordinating lots of people, but actually having each of the cells focusing on what they are good at doing and being able to flexibly reconfigure the whole organisation in a way that was not really possible in a large bureaucracy," he added.
Other ways to boost staff morale and employee performance include offering staff shares in a company, which was recommended earlier this week by Charles Cotton from the Chartered institute of Personnel and Development as a way to reward staff when you can't offer them a pay rise.
