Businesses looking to improve staff performance should promote eye tests, as an optometrist has suggested it improves employee motivation.
Dasha Barnett, founder of Specs of Kensington, says that encouraging staff to have their eyes examined will enhance employee performance as it makes sure they are comfortable in the workplace.
Ms Barnett pointed out that long hours in front of a computer screen could cause fatigue and discomfort, which in turn could impact on productivity and staff morale.
"In terms of risk, it's not that there's something terrible going to happen – there's no evidence that using computer screens causes major detriment to our health.
"But I think it's well documented that using computer screens can often make people very tired and uncomfortable," she pointed out.
Her comments follow figures from the EEF/Westfield Health 2011 Sickness Absence Survey which showed that almost 40 per cent of companies have paid for at least one employee's health treatment in the past year.
The research also showed that 15 per cent had received treatment through a medical insurance scheme.
