Being proactive in the workplace can help boost morale and employee motivation.
According to Ruth Spellman, chief executive of the Chartered Management Institute, if employees have become uninspired they do not have to wait for their manager to step in.
She advised that staff take matters into their own hands and think about how they can improve their working environment, for themselves and their colleagues.
"How can they feed their ideas to the manager? What kind of dialogue needs to be happening in a company? Don't wait to be asked, be proactive in your approach and also develop yourself," Ms Spellman continued.
Ms Spellman's comments follow research from Simplyhealth which found that many UK employees feel that their workplace is changing for the worse.
One in five workers questioned said they had noted changes in the past year, with many saying it feels like their boss cares less about their wellbeing.
