A state-of-the-art hotel and conference centre will be created through money supplied to the Rose Bowl by Eastleigh Borough Council, it has been reported.
The local authority plans to put the investment into the future of the Rose Bowl - the home of Hampshire County Cricket Club - to allow for the increased hosting of team building conferences and other corporate events.
Commenting on the investment, council leader Keith House said: "Our reasons for investing are threefold: it will be a great focus for world class sporting events, create 200 jobs and bring £20 million of spending into the local economy, plus test match cricket - it is win, win, win, win."
He added that the Rose Bowl is a "tremendous asset to the county" and was an obvious choice for further investment when the cricket club approached the council for funding.
Warwickshire County Cricket Club are currently being hosted by Hampshire at the Rose Bowl, with the former trying to achieve their first win at the ground.
