The Edinburgh International Conference Centre (EICC) has submitted an application to the local council to add a £85 million refurbishment to its facilities.
Alongside a renovation of the interior, plans have outlined the creation of an atrium space at the front of the building as well as a new multi-purpose hall to create extra space for events organisers and corporate hospitality events.
It is believed the work will take two-and-a-half years to complete, though it will not affect the day-to-day running of the existing spaces at the EICC.
Jenny Dawe, a board member with the EICC and the leader of the City of Edinburgh Council, said of the proposals: "Extra conference space at the EICC is essential for Edinburgh to retain and enhance its business tourism reputation and to bring more world-class conferences and events to the city."
Scotland continues to do well in the corporate event stakes, with the Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre in Glasgow securing three high-profile contracts for major functions, including one for the Institute for Health and Safety.
