Downsizing companies 'must focus on employee morale'
Date: 15/04/2010
Many businesses who have faced the unthinkable and required a downsizing initiative ought to consider a number of factors if they want to bounce back, it has been said.
David Javitch, an expert in employee management with Entrepreneur magazine, argued that by meeting with small groups of employees in team building conferences, the situation should be fully explained in both the short and long-term and explain the reasons for any actions taken during cutbacks.
Sincere empathy should be part of these moments, he added, as genuine feeling and understanding toward people who were let go, as well as for the added responsibilities for those who stay, will be necessary.
Mr Javitch added that a focus on "positive action" was the best way to seal the deal, adding: "With the changes you have made, you look forward to brighter, more secure prospects. Again, encourage [employees] to share their feelings and try to empathise with them."
A recent report from the Deccan Herald has discovered that increasing numbers of business chiefs are looking to blur the boundary between fun and work in order to boost worker morale and thereby production levels, with a lot of success.
