Any organisations wanting to capitalise on a new programme of motivation, incentives and recognition need to look at factors which could drag people down and address them straight away, according to an expert.
International Search Consultants representative Ann E. Zaslow-Rethaber explained that de-motivators may be found in many places around the workplace and need to be identified if a company can move on fully after such things as team building corporate events.
She explained: "Suggested areas include a lack of coaching/mentoring and employee recognition programmes, poorly defined career paths and non-productive work environments," citing buildings or equipment as latter issues which can cause trouble.
Furthermore, bosses need to turn ideas into action, receiving and acting upon input from staff as to what motivates them, in turn strengthening communications between different levels in the company.
Earlier this month, Association of Chartered Certified Accountants director Penelope Phoon told the Business Times that organisations must look at other flexible options and use incentives and recognition to keep people but reduce waste.
