Cycling to the office boosts employee motivation

Date: 09/02/2011

Employee motivation and staff engagement can be boosted if workers are offered the chance to cycle to the office, it has been claimed.

According to new research from the Cycle to Work Alliance (CWA), nine out of ten employers believe that offering a cycle to work scheme would boost morale.

What's more, some 98 per cent of workers already involved in such a scheme said that they would recommend it to friends and colleagues.

The organisation surveyed more than 44,500 people - looking at exactly what motivates staff and keeps them engaged during the working day.

Mark Smith, a CWA representative, told HR magazine: "Employers are seeing the benefits of a healthier and more engaged workforce - vital as the country moves out of recession."

The Cycle to Work scheme is a tax-based cycling incentive that offers people up to a 50 per cent discount on a new bike from selected retailers.
