Staff are being encouraged to engage with their employer on environmental issues and are being offered chocolate treats if they turn off their desktop computer monitors.
A spokesperson for the council claimed that while the majority of staff at the council switched off their computers at night, they were forgetting to shut down their monitors.
The council hopes that the small employee motivation tactic will ensure it saves money on its energy bills and cuts its carbon footprint.
"As a 'thank you' gesture we gave a bite size chocolate bar to those who had turned off their monitors," the spokesperson told the Wilts and Gloucestershire Standard.
"In total, the chocolate cost £50. This was a one-off expenditure and has not been repeated," they added.
Recently, the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development claimed employee motivation had been dented by the downturn.
