Corporate events 'need not worry' about health and safety red tape

This summer, many companies may want to host team building or corporate events, yet might be worried about the possible raft of health and safety regulations.

However, Judith Hackett, the chair of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), explained that there is too much misleading information and a number of myths surrounding what can and cannot be done at such get-togethers, resulting in a lot of confusion and worry.

She explained: "All that is needed is sensible and proportionate preparation, not excessive paperwork and precautions.

"The message is simple - do what's sensible and reasonable and then go ahead and enjoy yourselves!"

Ms Hackett emphasised the materials available to people wanting to organise a corporate hospitality event, noting that the HSE website contains a five-step plan to simple risk assessments, as well as regularly-believed myths about health and safety.
