Corporate events 'have good impact on Birmingham'

Date: 09/12/2008

The events industry is a huge driving force behind the income and development of Birmingham as a city, it has been claimed.

Simon Jones, the co-director of Custard Factory Spaces, told the Birmingham Post that corporate events are a major player in the economic longevity of the city, with nine per cent of the area's income arriving through events management, generating £300 million in three years.

He added that the city's cultural strengths also make it a great place to host such meetings, with larger venues and event organisers investing "significantly" to make it even more attractive a proposition.

Mr Jones concluded: "When confronted by these facts, it is undeniable that both the economic impact and the cultural influence that the events industry has on Birmingham is not only important but imperative to its success and survival."

Birmingham is home to the National Exhibition Centre, which opened its doors in 1976 and now hosts around 160 corporate events each year, including Crufts, Grand Designs Live and Clothes Show Live.ADNFCR-2060-ID-18920864-ADNFCR
