Corporate event management: Map of UK music festivals launched

Everyone who works in the area of event management knows that getting people to know about an event is one of the biggest challenges.

UK Music has teamed up with Visit Britain and created a map which pin points more than 500 music festivals to be held across the country this year.

It is a one stop shop for anyone wishing to see and choose which festivals are taking place, where and which ones to visit.

Festivals can be included as part of corporate party planning with delegates getting a taste of the cultural music scene in the UK.

Jo Dipple, chief executive of UK Music told Event magazine: "The map clearly shows the strength and diversity of the festivals on offer, with all tastes catered for."

A total of £864 million is added to the British economy every year through music festivals with 7.7 million fans visiting them.

With music having played such an important part in the Olympic opening ceremony and used to entertain spectators prior to sporting events, those who created the map are hoping it will be a continuation of this.

She said: "We know most visitors and journalists are here for the Olympics this year, and won’t have the time to visit one of our festivals, but we would love [them] to come back in 2013."

Part of the Music is Great campaign, the interactive map allows the user to click on any point denoting a festival in order to find out more information about it.

With plenty within striking distance of business hubs such as London, those with corporate clients may find it a useful tool while planning activities for delegates.

Music festivals have really taken off in the UK and what is good is that they are not confined to one genre but represent everything from rock and indie music through to folk and world offerings.
