Corporate event management sector 'needs more support'

Date: 21/10/2010

The corporate event management sector needs more government support if it is to be successful, it has been claimed.

According to Visit Britain chief executive Sandie Dawe, the corporate events management sector is growing rapidly and needs the backing of Whitehall if it is to fulfil its potential.

Speaking at a special reception for the corporate conferences industry at the House of Commons, Mr Dawe was reported by Event magazine as saying: "The events industry is growing very rapidly and it is going to be essential to the prosperity of the country's economy."

He added that the corporate events management sector is also a vitally important part of British business and needs to be taken seriously.

Mr Dawe was supported by 43 MPs, who all attended the International Confex-sponsored event.

Business Visits and Events Partnership (BVEP) chairman Michael Hirst, recently claimed that an estimated 530,000 people work in the events sector.

The BVEP, which also lent its support to the lobbying event, is to celebrate its tenth anniversary soon.
