Corporate conferences and events in the UK have the potential to be one of the fastest growing sectors in the country, according to prime minister David Cameron.
In a letter to Nick de Bois, who is chair of the All-Parliamentary Group for Events, Mr Cameron applauded the annual marketing campaign, Britain for Events.
He also made reference to the GREAT campaign for its contribution to promoting the UK as a top destination for working and investing as well as studying and taking holidays.
Mr Cameron mentioned the legacy and great potential of the Olympic Games for the events industry, though some experts say it is important the government practices what it preaches and supports the business.
Nick de Bois highlighted the importance of co-operation between those in corporate event management and MPs earlier in the year, saying they should attend events and help boost the industry.
Kieron O'Shea, client services director for the MotivAction Group, said: "The corporate events market remains cautious – the unpredictability of financial performance, consumer confidence and European debt resolution continues to hold back any dramatic shift in ‘people engagement’ investment. The appetite to do something is there, but it’s home-made packed lunches rather than Harrod’s Luxury Hampers."
