Youngsters aged between 16 and 21 from SE1 have been given the chance to learn about all aspects of corporate event management in an initiative called Better Bankside Events Academy.
They were given training and mentoring to boost their confidence and develop their abilities to put on a great event by Bankside Businesses including First Protocol and Fourth Day at Prospero House.
Skills learnt and put into practice included managing a team, deciding on a theme and making invitations, choosing a venue and keeping to a budget, all in the process of staging an event.
More than 120 people turned out to meet the students who had been coached on presentation skills by Alastair Campbell and watch a film they had made.
Mark Riches, managing director of First Protocol, said: "This should be a bigger initiative and I would encourage all businesses in the area to get involved. We have found it both a rewarding and humbling experience."
