Not enough support is being given to the corporate conferences business in the UK by the government, according to a report from the Business Visits & Events Partnership (BVEP).
As 40 per cent of people who come to the UK on business will return with their families, a more joined up approach to attracting people from overseas means a boost in corporate visits could be a boost for tourism.
By analysing the support in grants and aid provided by other countries as corporate destinations the report found the UK to be lagging behind.
It found 83 per cent of destinations held receptions hosted by officials compared to 35 per cent in the UK and grants towards marketing events were available in 50 per cent of places and only 17 per cent in this country.
With all eyes looking towards the UK for the London 2012 Olympic Games now is the right time for corporate event management to step up its game and prove great events can be staged here.
