Computer game live brand experience creates huge hype
Date: 13/11/2009
A movie-style live brand experience premiere of a leading game series' newest offering has caused a huge amount of hype for its creators.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 has proved to be both controversial and highly-sought after during the last couple of months, though the demonstration held on Monday night at London's Leicester Square has resulted in even more anticipation.
This has, in the last week, brought about unprecedented sales records for the title, which is available on PC, PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, with the game making no less than £186 million in its first day alone, proving that corporate events management was able to drum up even more publicity.
It also eclipsed the number of units which were sold by Rockstar Games on the launch of Grand Theft Auto IV, which distributed 3.6 million copies in its first day, with Activision claiming to have put 4.7 million copies into public hands in the US and UK alone.
One level caused particular outrage when it was revealed that the player has to kill innocent civilians at a Russian airport as part of the unconventional storyline, though it was soon concluded that it could escape censorship so long as an option to omit the level was included for those who could be offended by it.
