Company offers flexible working to boost employee motivation

Date: 11/11/2010

Staff at Astellas Pharmaceuticals will benefit from a range of reward incentives that promote employee motivation.

The rewards and recognition scheme has been developed after the results of the company's 2009 research revealed that while 59 per cent of staff enjoyed receiving pay rewards, 69 per cent wanted a flexible work environment.

In response to these figures, the company will develop a rewards scheme that incorporates flexible working and wellbeing for its 15,000 worldwide staff.

The news was announced at the 2010 CIPD Annual Conference and Exhibition, which offers employers the chance to hear from speakers and explore the latest HR products and services.

Mark Goodlake, senior director in the European HQ of Astellas, explained that the scheme was part of the company's desire to be named Employer of Choice.

"Our reward programmes were very short-term and, since we are reinforcing the brand of 'Employer of Choice', we had to demonstrate that we wanted staff to stay with us for the long term," Mr Goodlake said.

The rewards scheme will involve wellbeing initiatives such as employee assistance programmes and pedometers to allow staff to take 10,000 steps a day, as well as offering flexible and home working options.
