Communication is 'very important' with recessionary HR

Date: 17/11/2009

Organisations looking to improve their performance regardless of job losses or financial strife must always ensure that all communication routes are left open, according to a number of leading experts.

In an interview with Personnel Today, several leading human resource directors and heads gave their opinion on the current situation surrounding falls in motivation and staff morale, stating that good conversations always lead to results.

Graham White, the human resources director for Westminster City Council, noted that maintaining a semblance of normality needs an open approach with staff.

He told the news resource: "Helping an organisation survive recession is not about profile, but about relationships.

"Our future credibility will not be measured against how well we exited unfortunate staff out of the organisation, but about how we helped our organisation retain its integrity and its relationship with the workforce."

It follows a report by McKinsey Quarterly which emphasised that organisations may benefit from consulting corporate events management on using less money-based incentives and recognition, instead going for other motivators in the workplace.
