A recent meeting of hoteliers concluded that to maintain employee engagement and performance in their industry and others, communication between workers must be solid.
The Cornell-Nanyang Institute of Hospitality Management joined forces with global consulting firm Watson Wyatt to host a roundtable of major industry heads in Singapore.
Leading chains such as Marriott International, Carlton Hotels, Raffles Hotels and Resorts, Pan Pacific Hotels and Millennium & Copthorne came together to discuss the ways they have developed employee involvement, highlighting the different language, culture and skill sets used.
It was agreed that through a range of team building sessions alongside training sessions for managers and supervisors, the morale of workers could be boosted through the development of speech, improving trust in the business.
Another approach to improve employee performance may be to offer them flexible working, according to a poll by Citrix Online, which found that 81 per cent of small businesses in the UK agreed with the concept as one which improved their bottom line.
