Communication 'important for employee motivation'

Date: 26/01/2009

The way managers communicate with their staff is an important element in keeping them motivated, one business expert states.

Answers to workers' questions will probably be repeated to other employees, so bosses must ensure they do not say anything which could have a negative impact on motivation, warns Jerry Osteryoung in an article for Tallahassee.com.

He advises that employers consider how their words will be interpreted and whether they will improve staff morale.

"It is paramount that you couch each answer to an employee question about the health of the company and their welfare in a framework that empowers them and your business," Mr Osteryoung concludes.

Team building events or corporate parties are another way of communicating messages and keeping employees motivated, one human resources expert stated earlier this week.

Susan M Heathfield said in an article for About.com that recognition programmes can also boost motivation. ADNFCR-2060-ID-18991662-ADNFCR
