Coaching-culture team building conferences are 'great idea'
Date: 23/03/2010
Businesses can develop the culture and communication of a workplace if they factor in elements of coaching into a team building conference, it is asserted.
Simon Maryan, a director of an Aberdeen-based consulting firm, argued to the Press and Journal that companies ought to look into creating a coaching culture from the top down.
He argued that the key to achieving a strong communicative and learning experience is to train all managers and leaders to competently coach their teams in team building conference environments - something that could be achieved through team-building corporate events.
Mr Maryan continued: "Coaching behaviours motivate people and promote increased job satisfaction and good morale. They constitute a business-like structure and process for strengthening the co-operative and collaborative bonds between individuals."
Through this structure, he concluded, a business can create a "performance-focused" and "feedback-rich" organisation which sustains a competitive advantage over others.
A recent US-based survey by firm OfficeTeam discovered that if the right balance is achieved, team building corporate events can work well with sporting events in the public eye, meaning that the World Cup could be a summer focus of schemes in the UK.
