Some of the traditional employee motivation techniques do not work as well as others and it is essential that companies are careful in choosing which to implement, an expert has claimed.
Dr Paul Marciano, human relations consultant and author, has told My Central Jersey that the key quality that must be fostered through these methods is that of respect for the business.
He said that this will have knock-on effects through almost every aspect of a company and can have a substantial impact on its performance.
"The greater the respect that an individual has for the organisation and its leadership and the more the employee feels respected, the more he or she will engage and put forth greater effort," he explained.
Dr Marciano emphasised the importance of employee motivation, saying that it is those companies where this is high that will perform best during the downturn.
Earlier this month, Chris Roebuck, visiting professor of leadership at Cass Business School, emphasised the benefits that adopting a sales incentive programme can have in terms of encouraging positive behaviours.
