Carbon neutral development starts development

The increasing change in attitudes towards environmentally-friendly office spaces has been highlighted by the latest announcement for a development in Leeds.

According to property creator Citu, the construction of the UK's first carbon-negative residential development has started and will see a change to how businesses think in a sustainable way.

Known as 'greenhouse', the project will cost £27 million and will create 172 eco-homes alongside eco-offices and other amenities open to all of its users.

Ground source heat pumps, water recycling, top-of-the-range insulation and rooftop-mounted wind turbines will all contribute to the project's predicted success.

Hilary Benn MP, the secretary of state for the environment and Leeds city council principal planner Ian Mackay both registered their approval for the project.

Mr Mackay said: "We have been working with Citu since 2004 on the development and it is a great boost to the city that the scheme is underway and the concept has been realised."
