Companies ought to expand their training and event programmes in order to boost workplace abilities, it has been revealed.
John McGurk, an advisor for learning and talent development at the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), explained that it is "vital" that companies look into developing skills or provide a constant learning and development environment as this will improve performance.
Regarding employees, he noted that while private study is always a good method, perhaps looking to events organisers and other industry professionals could help a team develop their emotional intelligence and project management skills.
Mr McGurk continued: "That means more than just going on courses which may not be available because of cost implications.
"It may well be taking on new tasks so that you stretch yourself and build your skill levels that way."
Last week, the Confederation of British Industry commented on the evolving UK workplace landscape, explaining that both employers and staff are working together to protect their companies and jobs alike by adopting such initiatives as flexible working.
