Businesses will 'invest more in staff'

Date: 23/11/2009

Newer attitudes to business may see a number of companies going out of their way to invest in their human resources, according to a new report.

In its report the Shape of Business - The Next 10 Years, which the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) launched today (November 23rd), it was concluded that employees could be more in line for incentives and recognition as well as team building conferences.

The organisation explained that many companies are looking to build on the so-called "spirit of collaboration" which has flourished under the tough economic climate in recent months.

"There are important questions around how businesses are going to finance growth and investment in the future," said Richard Lambert, the director-general of the CBI.

He continued: "And in a more collaborative, less transactional world, closer relationships with customers, suppliers, employees and shareholders look like becoming the new norm."

Mr Lambert was a member of the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee from 2003 to 2006, taking up the post of director-general of the CBI soon after.
