Businesses 'must use flexible working' to improve staff motivation
Date: 12/10/2009
Companies who adopt flexible working practices will likely have an easier job entertaining their staff with incentives and recognition, it has been claimed.
Lesley Meechan, director of learning and development at the GO Group, explained that many businesses will be naturally better at retaining skilled staff and thus more competitive with a flexible working environment, perhaps making a complementary targeted campaign of incentives and recognition better received.
She said: "Flexible working has many benefits - especially for smaller businesses. Being adaptable and allowing staff to work hours that suit them can dramatically increase morale and job satisfaction, which can have a great effect on productivity."
Ms Meechan added that businesses which do not embrace the system already ought to try flexible working for a trial period at first, as it is always best practice to ensure it works for all people involved before jumping into it.
Earlier this week at the Conservative Party conference, David Cameron spoke highly of flexible working and ensured that if he and his comrades get into power, it will be further extended for workplaces up and down the country.
