Businesses 'must ensure strong work-life balance'

Date: 11/12/2009

People must maintain a strong work-life balance, otherwise it could have an effect on the health of employees and damage morale, it has been said.

The same can certainly be stressed for bosses, according to alternative therapy expert Gillian La Haye, who explained that overworking such figures can result in them being bad-tempered and miserable, impacting on team building conferences and having the reverse effect.

She explained that they feel the need to "wear several hats" and "be in several places at once".

Ms La Haye continued: "Inevitably, small business owners are under pressure, especially in the current climate. They carry the can, the finances are their responsibility, staff's income is their responsibility et cetera."

She also recommended that people open their minds to the likes of meditation and other relaxation techniques aimed at sustaining mental clarity.

Earlier this year, the Small Business Finance Barometer from Close Index Finance discovered that two in five business owners are losing sleep over the economic crisis.
