Businesses 'looking to rail for lower emissions'

Date: 19/01/2009

Organisations are looking to use rail travel more as they look to cut down on carbon emissions and improve efficiency, it is said.

Simon Montague, director of corporate communications at Eurostar, states that businesses are taking advantage of rail travel as it offers quicker trips and productivity.

"For businesses that are looking to cut their emissions from their travel activities, that is a very significant and attractive saving," Mr Montague asserts.

His comments come after Eurostar reported that its passenger numbers broke the nine million barrier in one year, reaching 9.1 million travellers, compared to 8.26 million in the previous year.

Last month, Xanfeon's Dr Michael Gell, writing for Climate Change Corp, offered businesses some tips for reducing their emissions this year.

One piece of advice was to initiate a well-communicated carbon reduction plan and "the business needs advocates to promote the plan" to both those inside the company as well as outside.

Chairman and founder of the MotivAction Group Tim Waygood says that the most amazing event experience can be held on trains.

He adds that electric trains offer far less emissions per passenger mile than airplanes.ADNFCR-2060-ID-18980822-ADNFCR
