While regular uncertainty is bad for employee morale, an economic crisis can make this "devastating" and leaders must constantly communicate the company and its mission to staff regularly, it is asserted.
According to Gene Ference in a piece for HospitalityNet, organisations must proactively manage communication by anticipating their employee NEWS: needs, expectations, wants and suggestions, through team building conferences.
The expert explained that organisations essentially thrive on communication and will do nothing but fail if there is a lack of it.
He continued: "Silence typically means bad news, while over-communication reinforces essential expectations and provides the security of being kept current. It is almost impossible to be too informed in the workplace."
Mr Ference added that a well-constructed employee survey can gauge how well employees interpret and carry the business vision, systems, resources, mission, values and standards in their work.
It follows the opinion of Eric Boullier, the head of Renault F1, who said that communication in the workplace is the best way to drive improvements in morale.
