British managers offer motivation with 'round of drinks'
Date: 04/05/2010
British bosses are more likely to buy the drinks at social corporate team building events than their European counterparts, according to new research.
Buying the team a round of drinks at a bar is one of the most popular ways for managers to boost leadership and motivation, the SABMiller survey shows.
Some 97 per cent of managers in Britain join the team for drinks and one in ten insist on paying for them all.
French managers are some of the least sociable on staff nights out, with 20 per cent never spending time with employees outside of working hours.
Commenting on the findings, SABMiller's Bianca Shevlin said: "We may work the longest hours in Europe, but British bosses are first to the bar on a Friday night and leave their European neighbours in the shade when it comes to staff drinks.
"The post-work pint tastes even better when the boss is paying!"
These findings follow research by Kenexa, which indicated that worker confidence in their employer is declining in the UK, with the HR business solutions firm's index suggesting that confidence has weakened during prolonged economic uncertainty.
