Bosses offered top tips to improve morale

Date: 18/02/2010

Some very basic things can be used to pick up employee morale, according to an expert with incentives and recognition at the forefront of their mind.

Rutland-Dix, a qualified practitioner in neuro-linguistic programming and communication, said that fresh flowers on desks have been known to override any "less savoury office smells" though are also great for creating a great mood through aesthetics and the musk they exude.

Furthermore, bosses could use coffee breaks outside the office with a different colleague each week as incentives and recognition for hard work, as it can be easy to lose a human touch when office correspondence is done predominantly via email.

Ms Rutland-Dix asserted that, by making a conscious effort to remember and use people's names, it can make someone feel part of the office, as well as very special.

She concluded: "Keeping spirits high can be achieved with a few subtle changes. If the change is kept up consistently, it will slowly grow into a habit, once something is habitual you can start to reap the results."

As an incentives and recognition deal at Manchester United, the Glazer family, who own the club, will treat their entire workforce to a day out at the Carling Cup final, which the team will be starring in.
