Bosses must 'reduce meetings and run enjoyable events'

Date: 30/01/2009

Businesses in the UK must treat their employees to enjoyable company events if they are to survive in the current economic climate, it has been reported.

Paul Thomas, the principal lecturer on business and management Wales' Western Mail said that managers must ask their employees one thing before they go about looking into team building training through a corporate event: how many people find work enjoyable?

He continued: "Answer: None - which is not a surprise as our research shows that most people believe that by definition work has to be drudgery, as otherwise it would be fun and we don't get paid for having fun."

The expert added that workers were, on the whole, knowledgeable and able to criticise processes as well as add value to the workplace, despite any seeming lack of communicative skills - something else which can be developed.

Dr Thomas is the founder and director of the DNA Wales Network, which is a collaborative research, education and professional development organisation for the country.ADNFCR-2060-ID-19000506-ADNFCR
