Bosses must 'learn from past recruitment mistakes'
Date: 09/09/2009
Jobseekers have been given a glimmer of hope by Manpower UK, which has detected improved hiring plans for the first time in three years in its most recent Employment Outlook Survey.
Jobpartners' group vice-president of solutions and marketing Richard Doherty explained that Manpower UK's understanding of the state of employment is certainly encouraging, though changes need to be made in future.
"This is definitely a sign that the job market is improving, however companies need to learn from their recruitment mistakes of the past," he explained, going on to underline the importance of incentives and recognition and team building conferences for staff.
He said: "To attract and retain the best staff, companies need to treat their employees and prospective employees with the same level of care as they treat their customers."
Despite upward trends in standards, the number of unemployed people still continues to grow, with 271,000 people being made unemployed in the last quarter to take the total of people out of work to 2.43 million - a figure expected to peak at three million by a number of groups.
